"The University of Champions" - The High Altitude Training Center is an iconic location in Iten.  Founded by World Champion Lornah Kiplagat, the camp is the preferred training center by Olympic athletes across the globe for over a decade.  I am grateful to be able to call it my home-base for the next six months...

Iten.  The self-proclaimed home of the Champions. This equatorial town situated in the highlands of western Kenya is the birthplace of a ritual unlike anything else in the world. Thousands of athletes rise with the sun each morning to transform their bodies and minds through the crucible of training. This environment, culture and ritual manifests some of the greatest talents to ever grace the sport of athletics. Foreign athletes and admirers journey here each year; pilgrims hoping to gain access to some mystical secret for running fast. The Enculturated Champion can be found amongst these hills...

The Kenyan Police Championships

The Kenyan Police Championships are a showcase of some of the greatest track and field athletes in the world. Kenya has a proud tradition of recruiting talented athletes into its service forces. Kip Keino was once a policeman prior to his 1968 Olympic victory. More recently, seven Kenyan Police Officers earned gold medals at last fall's IAAF World Athletic Championships. In short, this is the most athletic police force in the world. I wouldn't try to run away from these cops...
